As a kind act to self (meaning the school) grade 7 students held a Cultural Café event featuring Mexican food and donated the fifty dollars they made to the school bus project.

The kind act for the environment started last fall and is ongoing in the form of Vedanta students adopting about a kilometer of Mill Creek in the City's adopt-a-Stream Program. The students clean noxious weeds and garbage from the stream banks to enhance fish habitat and make waterways more enjoyable.

As a kind act to "another", the grade 8-9 class started a project with the Kelowna SPCA to build a pet exercise gym at the local shelter. This includes a special area where animals can use specially designed exercise apparatus to keep fitness levels high while caged and waiting for adoption. This is very important for their health. The project started with first cleaning out cages and an area for the exercise yard.

"This project has given the grade 8's and 9's a new perspective on kind acts for humans and animals and a new perspective on community service where they see the fruits of their labour rather than just the raising of money that goes to something", reports Michael Guzzi, Assistant Executive Director of Vedanta Academy.
