Our Story Contest Winners…
The KindActs Team would like to share the 2007/2008 Coin-spiracy Story Contest Winners with you. All of the journal entries that we receive are enthusiastically read and posted to the website. These stories are an integral part of the Coin-spiracy program and inspire others to make kindness a part of their daily lives.
The schools and youth groups participating in the Coin-spiracy have demonstrated kind action both locally and globally. We greatly appreciate the teachers and students who have been instrumental in spreading kindness throughout their schools and into the world. Please join us in celebrating a kinder world by reading and sharing the stories sent to us by these inspirational schools.
Creating a Splash
#237 Maywood Neighbourhood Care
Maywood started its kind acts by creating a buddy program. The older kids in the daycare partnered up with the younger ones to share their leadership skills. For their kind act to the environment they created a recycling program at the centre. Their third act of kindness and their “Big Splash” was creating a day called ‘Happy Day’. They chose the sky train station as the best place to cheer people up. The kids got all decorated up and passed out stickers and saw that by spreading kindness they were making people smile. It was contagious!
Thank you Maywood for being so creative and giving people a reason to smile!
Kindness Education
#212 Queen Alexandra School
This school took the Coin-spiracy into the classroom and encouraged students to be kind daily. When a student was ‘caught’ being kind they added a candy to a jar. After many kind acts the jar was full! They celebrated their kind acts by having a kindness party. We really enjoyed how Queen Alexandra found a fun way to ‘catch’ kindness in action.
Demonstrating the Ripple Effect
#211 Waverly Elementary
Waverly internally passed the coin from classroom to classroom to classroom. This ripple of kindness resulted in participating in the heart smart program, a UNICEF money drive, a Terry Fox Foundation fundraiser, garbage pickup, recycling, Jump rope for heart, and many more kind acts. Now the school has passed the coin onto another elementary school in Vancouver.
#245 Castle Park Elementary
The UNI Coin started at Castle Park Elementary school with a teacher who kindly made a donation to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in honor of one of his students affected by this disease. He passed the UNI onto a student who then committed her three kind acts and passed the Coin onto her teacher at Children’s Hospital with a thoughtful gift attached. The teacher at Children’s Hospital committed her three acts …please stay tuned for more ripples from this coin!
Coin that Travelled the Longest Distance
#210 John Henderson Elementary School
This school raised $2,500.00 for Onashikuvu Junior School and Ufenkenda Orphanage in Namibia (Africa). They surpassed their goal of $2,000.00. They held a special assembly and passed the coin onto to Namibian teachers. Now the Onashikuvu Junior School has the coin and we will continue to see the ripple effects of kindness across the world.
Teachers for Kindness
#199 Moody Elementary
This is a new award introduced to honour Moody Elementary’s resourcefulness. The teachers at this school were really excited to incorporate the Coin-spiracy’s message of kindness into their curriculum. One teacher gave a lesson on healthy living and taught healthy games to play (kindness to the self). Another teacher did ‘math and ourselves’ acknowledging each students special numbers such as birthdays and height. The teachers also had a kick off week where each day they had activities to make the students aware of all the simple acts of kindness they could do daily.
Thank you Moody Elementary for showing how simple it is to incorporate kindness into existing curriculum!
Innovative Recording
# 241 Kilmer Elementary
Kilmer Elementary has taken the time to create a Power Point Presentation to display their school’s acts of kindness. This was a great way to thank the Metro Town Rotary Club for it’s sponsorship of the Coin-spiracy. We truly appreciate your creativity and enthusiasm for kindness.
Special Acknowledgement
#220 Harry Sayers Elementary
This school has participated in every Coin-spiracy and has consistently demonstrated their commitment to bringing kindness into their school and beyond. We are always delighted to read their journal entries and hear about all the exciting places their UNI coins have traveled. Harry Sayers makes an effort to spread kindness not only in their own community but also across the globe, their coin reaching as far as Peru this year. Please also see their UNI coin numbers, 001, 069, and 152 to read about all their acts of kindness.
